COVID-19

The Coronavirus pandemic has been way less fun than I thought it would be. When it became apparent that schools were going to have to be closed for an extended period of time, I was actually really excited. I’m not going to say that I hate school, but I really wanted the break to last longer than the two weeks originally taken off for Spring Break. I was excited to have what will likely end up being the longest break without school since I was three years old. After more than a month without school, however, my hopes have shifted to wanting this to be over. This may sound weird to someone reading this in the future, but this situation really sucks. Even though we don’t have school, my enjoyment level of the current situation is remarkably low, the exact opposite of what I was expecting. The main thing is that there are just so many restrictions on the things that I previously enjoyed so much. Someone who’s name I cannot recall once said that, “Chaos is at once a risk and a chance.” If we can use all of this free time that we have because of this virus effectively, then I think we may end up coming out of this better than we went into it. My mom and sister have started a garden to pass the time, and a lot of people are starting new routines, or finding new hobbies. I, for instance, have read a couple books during this break. These routines could last much longer than this pandemic, so it really is a great opportunity to start some new routines. Another thing that this has changed is my views of healthcare workers. I previously thought of them as just people doing their jobs, verses now thinking of them as real heroes. Without our healthcare heroes, we would be in a far worse situation than we are right now, and we have to thank them for going to work every day. In conclusion, even though this is not a great situation to be in by any stretch of the imagination, there are definitely some silver linings, ones which will affect life far after the virus passes.
